My class just finished A Doll's House, by Henrik Ibsen. This play focuses on Nora, the main character, and Helmer, Nora's wife. Their life may look perfect and they may have the perfect marriage, but when looked at closely all is lost. Nora's whole life is one big secret and under this secret there are many questions that need to be answered. Like why did she marry Helmer, and why did she forge the papers? Was it really because she wanted to save her husband’s life or did she do it to gain power? This play is all about secrets, and the real Nora is hidden behind the fear she has if her husband finds out who she really is.
The poem "Secrets Never Die", by Anthony, resembles Nora’s situation exactly.
Secrets Never Die

By Anthony
Rain drops hold the secrets,
Then splatter to the ground.
The Secrets soak inside,
Where they're notdisturbed or found.
The hurtful words of others,
Are held inside the rain.
It's their secret though,
Because those words mask their pain.
The ground is a safe haven,
For these abandoned mysteries.
And still the world fails to notice,
Like waking past the blowing trees.
These people hide with passion,
Like they'd die if it was free.
But secrets will consume,
They won't know which them to be.
But the rain hold some salvation,
Holds the proverbial aid.
And It masks all our secrets,
All the mistakes we have made.
Everyone has a secret,
That they hope goes down the drain.
But secrets never go away,
They just hide until it rains.
Then splatter to the ground.
The Secrets soak inside,
Where they're not
The hurtful words of others,
Are held inside the rain.
It's their secret though,
Because those words mask their pain.
The ground is a safe haven,
For these abandoned mysteries.
And still the world fails to notice,
Like waking past the blowing trees.
These people hide with passion,
Like they'd die if it was free.
But secrets will consume,
They won't know which them to be.
But the rain hold some salvation,
Holds the proverbial aid.
And It masks all our secrets,
All the mistakes we have made.
Everyone has a secret,
That they hope goes down the drain.
But secrets never go away,
They just hide until it rains.
Secrets consume a person’s life and when a person has a secret their life may have to be altered so their secret is not revealed. Because Nora’s secret is consuming her life, every action she performs is a lie; she needs to cover up her secret. Nora hides "with passion" because she would, "die if it was free", and because her secret consumes her, she does not know which person to be (Anthony). Today when people have secrets they act just like Nora, they do anything to prevent their secret from being discovered which includes changing who they are. When the secret start controlling their life they become a totally different person. They hope for the "rain" because it will mask their secret.
